Frequently Asked Questions
A mechanical flag is a training aid for cutting and reined cow-horse riders. A system, like the RnR Trainer, has a remote control that fits on your wrist and fingers, to let you run the flag back and forth, and change its speed. Training a horse to hook on (follow) tha flag, trains your horse, to work a cow.

The answer is, it depends!
find a wall of your arena where you want to have the system.
Hang the base unit (with rails) over a panel or fence rail, so the pull of the line is against the end of the rail.
On the other end of the arena, hook up the idler pulley, either to a latch, or a tensioning strap, on the wall.
Start at the base unit - loop or tie the free end of the paracord line, with the washer, to the pulley base. Walk towards the idler, unspooling the line.
Loop the paracord around the top of idler pulley, and down. Unspool back to the start.
Use the supplied washer to tie the cord tightly together. Ensure both ends of the line are on the pulleys and the line moves freely. Cut off excess line but leave about 8inches for adjustments.
Undo the velcro on the flag top flap, and drop the flag over the pulley.
If using a battery, you are done.
If using an AC to DC adapter, you will need to get power to the base unit. Make sure the power is safely installed for use outside or around animals.
Set the speed by running the flag with the remote, and turning the speed control on the base unit. Clockwise runs faster! This will be your starting speed.
The base unit is in a water resistant case. It can be left outside year round. The base plate and hardware are stainless steel.
We recommend unhooking the line if horses are turned out in the arena. They can tangle with the line, and pull it down. Paracord is non-kinking - just unloop the line from either end and put it away.
We have seen cases where the line shrinks in cold wet weather, and stretches in the heat and after initial use. Best case is to place a peg or nailhead near the base unit, and unloop the line from the pulley, when it is not in use.
